![]() I created BreakThroughColour because I wanted a way to make sense of something that I always believed could and should be not just understandable, but accessible, easy and fun for everyone, not just artists, or designers, or teachers. It almost does, but that’s almost worse, because when something is so widely used and accepted as a system that fully works, the parts that don’t leave us feeling like it’s our fault. But the problem with the traditional colour wheel was (and still is)… it doesn’t work. I spent most of my life almost understanding what ‘colour theory’ was and how it worked. There are 27 Flash Cards in Colour In A Flash, one for each of 27 different need-to-know colours and concepts. Colour Cards have always been an integral part of the BreakThroughColour system, so infographic Flash Cards made sense as a companion to the collection. Key words and phrases can help us define our colour-full world, and images can balance the learning. So why are we still relying on an ‘old school’ system? With a few new rules and a few new tools, we can all share a common language to better explore, understand, and celebrate colour together. But a lot has changed in what we know, what we have, and how we use it. We’ve been spinning a colour wheel for hundreds of years. Colour In A Flash is a 2-part digital download resource that combines a deck of DIY Flash Cards with a companion Field Guide, designed to give artists, art teachers, homeschoolers, and other colour keeners a new foundation for defining colour with clarity and confidence.Ĭolour theory isn’t new.
